Postgame interview with Barry Elkins and Caitlyn Shaughnessy
BELTON, Texas– The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team beat Concordia University Texas 4-0 Tuesday evening in a quarterfinal match of the 2017 American Southwest Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. The win improved UMHB to 15-2-1 on the season while the Tornados moved to 10-8.
Taylor Marques gave UMHB a lead in the 20
th minute, finishing a cross from
Sarah Rempe for the 1-0 lead. UMHB limited the Tornados to just three shots in the half.
Caitlyn Shaughnessy opened the second half with a hat trick, scoring three goals within 13 minutes of each other to put the Cru up 4-0.
Chelsea Graham led the Cru with seven shots while Shaughnessy and Rempe each added four. UMHB outshot the Tornados 22-4 in the match, putting two shots on goal. Shelby Franco took the loss for the Tornados, allowing four goals with eight saves.
Emmy McMaude earned the win in the goal for the Cru, making two saves in the shutout win.
UMHB advances to the semifinal round of the 2017 ASC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. The Cru will face No. 3 seed University of Texas at Dallas at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 3
rd on the campus of Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene.
