ABILENE, Texas– The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team edged UT Dallas 2-1 Friday afternoon in Abilene, advancing to the ASC Women's Soccer Championship match for the first time in program history.
Caitlyn Shaughnessy opened scoring for the Cru, netting an unassisted goal in the ninth minute for a 1-0 UMHB lead. The Cru held that lead until the 51
st minute when UT Dallas's Keely Fillman scored the equalizer. Shaughnessy responded for UMHB, scoring the game-winning goal off an assist from
Chelsea Graham in the 53
rd minute.
Emmy McMaude earned the win in the goal for UMHB, making seven saves and facing 15 shots. Monica Dallacasa took the loss for the Comets, making five saves in 11 shots faced. UMHB allowed only eight shots on goal and took two corner kicks. The Comets gave up seven shots on frame and allowed two corner kicks.
UMHB improved to 16-2-1 on the season and advances to face Hardin-Simmons University in the championship match on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Abilene.
