TYLER, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team edged Hardin-Simmons 1-0 Friday night in Tyler, eliminating the Cowgirls from the American Southwest Conference tournament. UMHB improves to 30-13 on the season and will continue play in the tournament while Hardin-Simmons ends its season at 22-19.
Neither team was able to generate a scoring offense until the bottom of the sixth, when UMHB added the lone run of the game. Designated player
Corina Drake led off the inning with a standup double, followed by an RBI single from
Myranda Hinojosa, allowing pinch runner
Amelia Cluke to score from second. UMHB held Hardin-Simmons off in the top of the seventh to secure the 1-0 victory.
Hinojosa and
Leah Brown led the Cru with two hits while Drake and
Janie Neyland each added one.
Haley Parker went five innings in the circle, scattering four hits and walking just two batters.
Rebekah Ragsdale pitched two innings in relief, allowing just one hit and striking out one batter.
The Cru returns to action tomorrow in a 3 p.m. elimination game against Louisiana College. The winner of that contest advances to face the loser of U.T.-Tyler and East Texas Baptist University tomorrow at 6 p.m.
