Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team has been picked to finish third in the American Southwest Conference West Division in the ASC’s annual Preseason Coaches and Media Poll. The Cru picked up one first-place vote and 104 total points in balloting of West Division coaches, sports information directors and selected media representatives. Hardin-Simmons was the pick to successfully defend its ASC West Division title with 17 first-place votes and 140 total points. Howard Payne was picked to finish second with two first-place votes and 111 total points. Schreiner University is the choice to finish fourth with 81 total points, Concordia Texas picked up 78 total points as the pick to finish fifth, Texas Lutheran University took the other first-place vote and 50 total points as the pick to finish sixth and Sul Ross State is picked to finish seventh with 24 total points.

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor will host a winter softball camp this winter for softball players ages 13-18. The one-day camp will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Dee Dillon Field on the UMHB campus and runs from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Cost of the camp is $30 and registration runs through January 13th. There will be a late registration on January 14th for an additional $5 fee. Check-in for the game will be 30 minutes prior to the start of the camp.

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team will host a fall skills camp for players aged 13-18. The one-day camp will be held Saturday, November 21st from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Dee Dillon Field on the UMHB campus. Cost of the camp is $30. The deadline for registration is November 19th, but players can sign up on November 20th with a $5 late fee added to the cost of the camp. Players will need to bring their own glove, bat, shoes and catcher’s gear. UMHB head coach Kasey Blomquist will conduct the camp with assistance from UMHB assistant coach Denise Lira and current college players. For more information, contact Denise Lira at 254-295-5564.

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team raised nearly $700 to help fund breast cancer research during the team’s “Strike Out Breast Cancer” campaign last weekend. The UMHB softball team donated all gate receipts from Saturday’s doubleheader against Our Lady of the Lake University to the Cancer Research Center at Scott & White Hospital. The Cru also sold pink t-shirts with the events logo and accepted donations for every strikeout in odd-numbered innings throughout the day. The event raised $671.53 in all and was part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Cru will host “Striking Out Breast Cancer” events throughout the doubleheader as part of Cancer Awareness Month.

Belton, TX- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team placed three players on the American Southwest Conference Spring All-Conference Team, released today. To be eligible for the ASC Academic All-Conference Team, a player must be a sophomore, junior or senior and have attended the school for a full year. The student-athlete must also earn a letter and maintain at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA.
