Belton, TX—The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football program officially kicked off the 13th season of Cru football by welcoming 190 players to campus as the 2010 edition of the Cru football team reported to campus Saturday morning. The Cru welcomed back 76 returners and 114 newcomers. Five more players are expected to report on the first day of class, August 23rd.
“I am always excited about it on move-in day and this certainly is no exception,” UMHB Head Coach Pete Fredenburg said. “I think when it's not fun or exciting for me, that am when I need to quit. We are going to have 190 guys here today and we are really anxious because we have some high expectations and we need to find some guys that are going to help us.”
The Crew spent its first day back on campus going through physicals, team meetings and compliance meetings. The team will go through its first full-team practice at 6:00 PM on Sunday evening. The practices will then move to the morning for the rest of the first week of fall camp. The Cru will have its first workout in full pads on Thursday morning, August 20th.
The group of 190 includes six offensive starters and six defensive starters from last year's team. The Cru also features three Preseason All-Americans in running back Quincy Daniels, center Dustin Davis and offensive tackle Max Taylor.
The UMHB football team finished the 2009 season with a 10-2 record and shared the American Southwest Conference championship with Mississippi College. The Cru has now won or shared seven of the last eight ASC titles. UMHB advanced to the NCAA Division III national Championships for the eighth time in the last nine seasons last year before falling to Linfield College in the second round of the postseason. UMHB and Mount Union are the only two Division III programs in the nation to win at least one postseason game in each of the past six seasons.
