Blomquist resigns as softball coach

Belton, TX – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor head softball coach Kasey Blomquist has submitted her resignation, effective July 15th. Blomquist is taking a teaching position in order to spend more time with her family.
“I have really enjoyed my time as the softball coach at UMHB and it has been a privilege to have the opportunity to coach at my alma mater,” Blomquist said. “But I am thrilled to have the chance to spend more time with my children and I know that they are excited to have more time with me. I want to thank the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor for giving me the opportunity to coach collegiately and I am proud of the success we've had in the softball program over the last eight years.”

Her husband, Darin, is a coach and teacher at Belton High School and the couple has two elementary-aged children.

Blomquist spent eight seasons as the head softball coach at UMHB, leading the Cru to a 198-124 record and winning more games than any other head coach in the history of the Cru softball program. She led UMHB to three American Southwest Conference West Division crowns and seven ASC Championship Tournament appearances in her time with the Cru. Blomquist was named ASC West Division Coach of the Year four times in her career and also won West Division Coach of the Year honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association following the 2008 season. Blomquist guided the Cru to a 35-11 record that season, setting a new school single-season record for victories and leading the team to its first NCAA Division III National Championships appearance. UMHB also went 24-0 in ASC West Division play that season and remains the only program to go undefeated in divisional play in ASC history.

“While we are certainly saddened by Kasey's departure, we are happy that she will be able to spend more time with her family,” UMHB Vice-President for Athletics Ben Shipp said. “We are very proud of the softball program and the valuable contributions that Kasey made to our program. She distinguished herself as a player and now as a head coach and I am sure that she will excel in everything she puts her hands into.”

Blomquist is a 1998 graduate of UMHB and she was a three-year letterwinner for the Cru softball program. She set a UMHB single-season record for pitching victories with 16 in 1996 and also helped lead Cru softball to its last conference championship that season.
The search for Blomquist's replacement will begin immediately
