Aarhus sisters open play in NCAA Tournament on Friday

Duo learns first round opponent with release of bracket today
Fredricksburg, VA – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor tennis players Mallory and Megan Aarhus will open play in the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Individual National Championships tomorrow afternoon. And with the release of the tournament bracket today, the Cru’s #1 doubles team finally knows its opponent in tomorrow’s first round match.
            Mallory and Megan will face off against Kenyon College’s Prita Kidder and Amy Schlessman in a first round match at 2:00 PM Central Time tomorrow. The winner of that match will then advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday to face the winner of tomorrow’s match between Julie Browne and Meghan McCooey of Tufts University and Lauren Caire and Ellen Yeatman of Washington & Lee College. The semifinals and finals will be played on Sunday with all of the action taking place at he Battleground Tennis Complex.

            The Aarhus sisters enter Friday’s match with a 25-2 overall record this year. The duo will be the first UMHB tennis players, men or women, to play in an NCAA Division III National Championships. Kidder and Schlessman have a 15-3 mark on the year. Defending national champions Kendra Higgens and Chrissy Hu of Chicago are also back in this year’s field.

Thomas Orr
Men's Basketball
Thomas hit a pair of clutch free throws with 2.1 seconds left in overtime to give the Cru a 75-73 victory over Hardin-Simmons last week. He averaged 13.0 points per game and added a season-high 15 points to keep UMHB in the game in a narrow 75-71 loss to McMurry University.
Miranda Shorter
Women's Basketball
Miranda averaged 9.5 points per game over two contests last weekend. She is one of just three seniors on this year's team. Miranda has started 16 of the Cru's 17 games and she currently ranks third on the team in scoring.
