Belton, TX – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s soccer player Lindsay Hunt and baseball player Kyle Flynn have been named the UMHB winners of the American Southwest Conference Scholar-Athlete Awards. The ASC Scholar-Athlete Awards are presented to one male and one female member of the graduating class who has compiled the most outstanding record in academics, athletics and leadership over their collegiate career. The awards are presented annually by the Faculty Athletic Representative at each conference member institution.
Lindsay Hunt is a senior midfielder for the Cru women’s soccer team from Lahainaluna High School in Lahaina, Hawaii and she is an art major. Hunt was a two-year letter winner for the UMHB women’s soccer team and helped lead the Cru women to back-to-back ASC Championship Tournament appearances. The Cru women posted the best single-season win total in school history this season and also won an ASC Tournament match for the first time in school history. Hunt was a member of the ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team, a two-time ASC Academic All-Conference selection and a two-time member of the UMHB Vice-President for Athletics Honor Roll. She was voted the school’s Female Senior Scholar-Athlete after posting the highest cumulative GPA among female senior student-athletes this school year.
Kyle Flynn is a senior shortstop for the Cru baseball team from Clear Lake High School in Clear Lake, Texas and he is a sport management major. He was a two-year starter at shortstop for the Cru and batted .304 this season. Flynn helped lead the UMHB baseball team to back-to-back ASC Championship Tournament appearances. He is a member of the ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team, an ASC Academic All-Conference selection and a two-time member of the UMHB Vice-President for Athletics Honor Roll. Flynn was named the school’s Male Senior Scholar-Athlete after posting the highest cumulative GPA among all of UMHB’s senior student-athletes this year. He also helped the baseball team raise more than $950 for breast cancer research this spring through the team’s Pink Zone campaign.
Recipients of the ASC Scholar-Athlete Award represent nine different conference sports and include individuals who graduated with academic honors or hold admissions to graduate-level programs; are members of academic honor societies and campus organizations; competed on national, conference or division title teams; earned ASC All-Academic, Distinguished Scholar-Athlete, All-Conference or All-Division honors; and who served as volunteers, tutors and teachers within their campus, community and church groups.
