Waxahachie, TX – The offense came to life in the late innings and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team held on for an 8-6 victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God University in the 2010 season opener Tuesday night in Waxahachie. The Cru is now 1-0 to start the season. The loss drops the Lions to 0-1 on the year.

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team will open the 2010 season on the road with a non-conference game at Southwestern Assemblies of God University tomorrow night in Waxahachie. The Cru and Lions will face off at the Waxahachie Sports Complex beginning at 7:00 PM.

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team has been picked to finish fourth in the American Southwest Conference’s West Division in the league’s annual Preseason Coaches and Media Poll. The Cru totaled 142 points and picked up four first-place votes in balloting of ASC West Division coaches, sports information directors and selected media representatives. Defending ASC West Division champion Texas Lutheran is picked to successfully defend that title after picking up 13 first-place votes and 174 total points. McMurry University was picked second with four first-place votes and 156 total points and Hardin-Simmons University was picked third with three first-place votes and 143 total points, just one point ahead of the Cru. Concordia Texas was picked fifth with 97 total points, Howard Payne University is the choice at #6 with 68 points, Schreiner University was picked seventh with 55 total points and Sul Ross State totaled 29 points as the choice to finish eighth.

Belton, TX – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball player Joseph Villegas has been named Preseason All-American by D3baseball.com. Villegas, a senior outfielder from Hays High School, was named to the web site’s Second team.

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team’s holiday baseball camp has been pushed back one day due to the potential for inclement weather in Central Texas. The camp will now be held on Wednesday, December 30th, beginning at 10:00 AM instead of Tuesday, December 29th.

Athletes of the Week
Lindsay Eaton
Women's Basketball
Lindsay is this week's ASC West Division Player of the Week after averaging 19 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game last week in giving the UMHB women their first-ever two-game sweep on the Abilene road trip. She poured in 24 points in a victory at McMurry to open the week and followed with a 14-point, 7-rebound performance as the Cru women topped Hardin-Simmons. She has helped lead the UMHB women to an 11-game winning streak.
Zane Johnston
Men's Basketball
Zane averaged 15.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game as he helped lead the UMHB men to a sweep on the Abilene road trip. Johnston hit 55 per cent of his shots from three-point range and also added six assists and four steals. Zane has started more games and played more minutes than any other member of the Cru this season and he has helped lead the UMHB men to an eight-game winning streak and first place in the ASC West Division.
