Belton, TX – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball player Joseph Villegas won the Prospect League batting title this summer and was also named to the league’s Postseason All-Star Team. Villegas is a graduate of Hays High School and will be a senior outfielder for the Cru this season. He batted a league-best .363 this summer and also had a league-high 62 base hits. Villegas added seven doubles, three triples, 17 RBI and 11 stolen bases while playing for the Richmond RiverRats in the wood-bat Prospect League. Villegas’ batting average was 13 points higher than the next closest hitter. He was also named to the league’s Postseason East Division All Stars and earned a spot on the circuit’s midseason All-Star team, as well. Villegas will enter the 2010 season needing just four base hits to tie the UMHB career record of 208 set by Willard O’Neal.

Wichita, KS – Two University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball players advanced to the National Baseball Congress (NBC) World Series last weekend in Wichita, Kansas. Seth Lynn and Ryan Moreau both qualified for the World Series as members of the Katy Collegians summer league team, one of just 30 teams from across the nation to advance to the NBC World Series.

Belton, TX – Four University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball players have been selected to play for the All-Star Teams in their respective summer leagues. Joseph Villegas, Michael Garza. Jared Hopper and Josh Shaw have all earned All-Star recognition in the past two weeks.
Villegas is playing outfield for the Richmond RiverRats in the Prospect League and will represent the RiverRats in the league’s all-star game later this week. Villegas, a senior from Hays High School, is currently fourth in the league in hitting with a .336 batting average. He also has a league-best 42 hits to go with 13 RBI and eight stolen bases.
Garza and Hopper are both playing for the Fort Collins Foxes in the Mountain Collegiate Baseball League and represented the Foxes in Sunday’s All-Star game. Garza, a sophomore infielder from Katy Cinco Ranch High School, is batting .308 with two home runs and nine RBI. Hopper, a junior from Northeast Christian High School, currently has a 4-1 record and a 2.34 ERA. He also has 35 strikeouts in 34.2 innings pitched on the season.
Shaw is playing for the Boise Owls in the Boise Summer League and earned a spot in last night’s All-Star game. Shaw, a junior outfielder from Salado High School, is batting .326 and has an on-base percentage of .426 on the season.
The Cru baseball team went 22-17 overall last season and advanced to the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament for the third straight season. UMHB finished 12-9 in ASC West Division play.

Belton, TX- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team placed ten players on the American Southwest Conference Spring All-Conference Team, released today. To be eligible for the ASC Academic All-Conference Team, a player must be a sophomore, junior or senior and have attended the school for a full year. The student-athlete must also earn a letter and maintain at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA.

Belton, TX - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team placed a total of eight players on the American Southwest Conference All-West Division Teams released today. UMHB had three First Team All-West selections, two Second Team All-West picks and three Honorable Mention All-West choices.
