Carlos Marbot named women's basketball assistant coach

Belton, TX – Carlos Marbot has been named assistant coach with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team, UMHB Vice-President for Athletics Ben Shipp announced today. Marbot is just the third full-time assistant coach in the history of the UMHB women's basketball program.
Marbot comes to UMHB from East Texas Baptist University where he spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach for the Lady Tigers basketball program. Prior to joining the coaching staff for the Lady Tigers, Marbot spent four years playing basketball for the ETBU men's program. He was a three-time American Southwest Conference Academic All-Conference selection. Marbot also has international playing experience as a member of USA Athletes, International. He played in Australia, The Netherlands, Belgium, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France and Italy. Marbot also participated in the Pro Basketball Combines in Philadelphia and received invitations to try out in the United Kingdom and in Germany through his participation.

Marbot graduated from East Texas Baptist in 2008 with a degree in biology. Marbot replaces Hollie Stanton with the Lady Cru. Stanton became UMHB's Associate Director of Admissions and Recruiting in March. Stanton spent seven seasons as the Cru's assistant coach.

“The biggest thing that attracts me to UMHB is that they are the complete package,” Marbot said. “UMHB has a rich tradition of Christian values, athletic success and strong academics. I am excited to become a part of that.”

“I am thrilled that Carlos is coming in to join our staff,” Cru head coach Kim Kirkpatrick-Thornton said. “He is a person of strong character and values that will be a great fit for UMHB. He brings with him valuable experience and expertise in many areas.”

The UMHB women's basketball team went 21-6 overall last season, including a 17-4 mark in American Southwest Conference play. The Cru won the ASC West Division for the first time in the program's history and advanced to the semifinals of the ASC Championship Tournament before falling to McMurry University 49-47. The Cru women have qualified for the ASC Tournament in five consecutive seasons.
