Game Two Box Score

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team could not generate enough offense to overcome early deficits in both games and the Cru dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Louisiana College Saturday afternoon in Belton. UMHB falls to 2-2 on the season with the two losses. The Wildcats improve to 4-0 on the year with the sweep.
Louisiana College broke open a tight game with five runs in the fourth and fifth innings on the way to an 8-0 victory in game one. Kelsey Brown’s two-run homer made it 2-0 LC in the top of the second. A bases loaded walk and a steal of home gave the Wildcats a 4-0 lead in the fourth. Allison Frye hit a two-run homer to highlight a three-run fifth and the Wildcats added a final run in the top of the seventh. UMHB only managed one hit, a leadoff single from Kelsey Greeson in the bottom of the fifth inning. Hannah White took the loss for UMHB to drop to 0-1 on the year. Rene’ Schwartzenburg earned the win for the Wildcats to move to 2-0 on the year. She struck out nine and allowed just the one hit.

The Cru could not fight back from a 3-0 deficit going into the bottom of the first inning in a 10-3 loss in game two. After LC grabbed that 3-0 lead, UMHB cut it to 3-1 on an RBI groundout from Megan Bohne. The Wildcats stretched it to 5-1 before Bohne blasted a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth. LC then added three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to put the game out of reach. Greeson took the loss for UMHB to drop to 1-1 on the season. Caitlin Bollier had three of the Cru’s six hits in the game.

The Cru will return to action with the American Southwest Conference First Pitch Tournament next weekend in Farmer’s Branch. UMHB will face East Texas Baptist and Louisiana College on Friday before closing out the tournament against U.T.-Tyler and U.T.-Dallas next Saturday.
