Belton, TX- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team placed ten players on the American Southwest Conference Spring All-Conference Team, released today. To be eligible for the ASC Academic All-Conference Team, a player must be a sophomore, junior or senior and have attended the school for a full year. The student-athlete must also earn a letter and maintain at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA.
Ricky Brenek is a sophomore outfielder/pitcher and economics major from Rogers High School.
Doak Fleming is a junior infielder and sport management major from Winnsboro High School. Hunter Hawkins is a senior pitcher and accounting major from Sugar Land Kempner High School. David Keil is a junior pitcher and marketing major from Alpha Omega Academy in Huntsville. Zack Polk is a sophomore pitcher and exercise and sport science major from Rosebud-Lott High School. Josh Shaw is a sophomore outfielder and exercise and sport science major from Salado High School. Joseph Villegas is a junior outfielder and computer graphic design major from Hays High School. This is the third Academic All-Conference honor for Hawkins. Fleming, Keil and Shaw are two-time Academic All-Conference honorees. This is the first Academic All-Conference selection for Brenek, Polk and Villegas.
The Cru finished the 2009 season with a 22-17 overall record and went 12-9 in ASC West Division play. UMHB advanced to the ASC Tournament for the third straight season before falling to Mississippi College in the opening round of the tournament.
