Belton, TX – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s soccer player Daniel Green has been voted American Southwest Conference Men’s Soccer Distinguished Scholar-Athlete for his accomplishments on the field and in the classroom. UMHB also placed three other student-athletes on the 2009 ASC Fall Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Teams.
Green, a senior chemistry major and defender from Abilene High School, was voted ASC Men’s Soccer Distinguished Scholar-Athlete after leading the Cru men to the first NCAA Division III National Championships berth in the program’s history. Green carries a 3.797 GPA, earned ASC Academic All-Conference honors twice and was also voted to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI First Team this season. He was a First Team ASC All-Conference selection and earned a spot on the NSCAA All-West Region First Team. Green was the leading defender for a Cru team that posted 12 total shutouts and surrendered only 11 regular season goals. Green also scored a pair of goals for UMHB this season.
Quincy Daniels represented the Cru on the Football Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team. Daniels, a junior running back from Belton High School, is majoring in management at UMHB. He rushed for 982 yards and 14 touchdowns for the Cru this season and earned First Team All-Conference honors.
Erin Maenius was UMHB’s representative on the Volleyball Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team. Maenius, a junior libero from San Antonio MacArthur High School, is majoring in marketing and finance at UMHB. Maenius also led the ASC in digs this season and was a First Team ASC All-West Division selection.
Lindsay Hunt represented UMHB on the Women’s Soccer Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team. Hunt, a senior midfielder from Lahainaluna High School in Lahaina, Hawaii, is majoring in art. Hunt scored two goals and added three assists for seven total points to help the Cru set a school single-season record for wins this season.
The ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Teams are in their third academic year and recognize student-athletes that achieve a higher level of academic achievement (a 3.20 GPA or better) while competing as a starter of key reserve on their team. From that list – limited to one nominee per school in each ASC Championship Sport – the Sports Information Directors from the conference’s 15 member institutions vote on a Distinguished Scholar-Athlete from each sport.
