Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team held its ground in both major national polls this week. The Cru held steady at #9 in the country in the American Football Coaches Association's Top 25 Poll this week. The Cru totaled 656 total points this week, a gain of four points over last week's total. UMHB is coming off a 45-7 victory over Howard Payne University last Saturday in Brownwood. Defending national champion Mount Union holds down the top spot once again with 39 first-place votes and 999 total points. Wisconsin-Whitewater is second with the other first-place vote and 961 total points.
“We continue to challenge our players to keep improving,” Cru head coach
Pete Fredenburg said. “They know that they are only guaranteed one more week and we need to keep winning if we want to reach some of the other goals this program has set for itself.”
The Cru also held steady at #7 in the nation in this week's D3football.com Top 25 Poll. UMHB totaled 467 points in that poll this week.
The Cru is 8-1 overall and 6-1 in American Southwest Conference play and can clinch at least a share of the American Southwest Conference championship with a win this Saturday. UMHB will host Sul Ross State University (2-7, 2-5 ASC) for a 1:00 PM kickoff at Tiger Field. The Cru is still alive in the hunt for a bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships, but needs a win of the Lobos to keep those hopes alive.
