Belton, TX – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s soccer players Daniel Green and Mark Miller have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI First Team presented by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Green is a senior defender and Chemistry major from Abilene High School who carries a 3.80 GPA. Green is the top defender for a Cru defense that has held opponents to just seven goals on the season. UMHB has posted ten shutouts as a team this season. Green also has a pair of goals, including one game-winning goal, and four total points on the season. He is a two-time American Southwest Conference Academic All-Conference selection and a two-time ASC All-Conference honoree.
Miller is a junior goalkeeper and Christian Studies major from Wichita Falls Rider High School who carries a 3.89 GPA. Miller is holding opponents to a 0.47 goals against average and has 64 saves on the season. Miller also has nine shutouts in goal for the Cru and shared the team’s other shutout with Adam Cecil. Miller is a two-time ASC Academic All-Conference selection.
Green and Miller will now both advance to the national ballot and is eligible for Academic All-American honors. The College Division All-District Team is made up of Division II, Division III and NAIA players from Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana. The team is voted on by sports information directors from the district and the All-American team will be selected by a nationwide vote of SID’s. To be eligible for the Academic All-District and All-American Teams, a player must be a sophomore, junior or senior and carry at least a 3.20 GPA.
The Cru men’s soccer team currently has a 13-2 overall record and is 11-1 in ASC play. UMHB will close out the regular season with a 3:00 PM start at Howard Payne University tomorrow in Brownwood. The Cru men will then return home to host the ASC Championship Tournament as the league’s regular season champion. The ASC Tournament will be played November 6-8 at the Cru Sports Plex.
