Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s basketball team fought back to make a game of it late, but the Cru never completely overcame an early 18-2 deficit in an 88-76 loss to McMurry University Thursday night in Belton. The loss snaps UMHB’s eight-game losing streak and drops the Cru to 14-6 overall and 12-4 in American Southwest Conference play. McMurry improves to 14-6 overall and 12-4 in the ASC with the win and the two teams are now tied for first in the ASC West with five regular season games remaining.

The UMHB men improve to 13-5 overall and 11-3 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The Cru has now won seven straight games and stretched its lead over McMurry in the ASC West Division to a game and a half with the victory. The loss drops McMurry to 11-6 overall and 9-4 in the ASC on the season.

Belton, TX – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s basketball player Dean Pele has been named American Southwest Conference West Division Player of the Week for the week ending January 24th. Pele, a junior guard from Lake Travis High School, claims ASC West Division Player of the Week honors for the second time this season. Pele averaged 22.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game to help lead the Cru to a 2-0 record last week. He opened the week with a 27-point performance in a win at Texas Lutheran University and then closed out the week by scoring a team-high 18 points in UMHB’s victory over Schreiner University. Pele hit 57 per cent of his shots from three-point range, going 8-14 from beyond the arc in the two wins. He also added a steal.

The Cru also maintained sole possession of first place in the ASC West Division with the victory. The loss snaps TLU’s three-game winning streak and drops the Bulldogs to 5-11 overall and 3-9 in the ASC on the season.
