Cru battles back from two-set deficit in heartbreaking loss to Schreiner
Georgetown, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team fought back from an early deficit, but the Cru comeback fell just short in a five-set loss to Schreiner University to close out the first day of the 2010 season. Both of today’s matches were part of a season-opening tri-match hosted by Southwestern University in Georgetown.

The Cru battled from a two-set deficit to win the next two and send it to a deciding fifth set before falling to Schreiner 25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 21-25, 17-15. Tina Miller led the Cru with 19 kills and she added five total blocks. Kaydie Cochran posted a double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs. Anissa Garcia recorded 27 assists and 15 digs and Alexis Tharp added 15 assists. Erin Maenius topped the Cru with 30 digs.

UMHB opened the day with a 25-23, 25-15, 25-12 loss to tournament host Southwestern. Miller again led the Cru with eight kills and she also posted three total blocks. Cochran had four kills and seven digs and Maenius added a team-high 18 digs. Garcia and Tharp both reached double figures in assists with 12 and 10 respectively.

The Cru will now continue its busy first week of play with four matches at the University of Dallas Tournament in Irving on Friday and Saturday. UMHB will then return home to host Victoria College and Concordia Texas for a tri-match to close out a stretch of eight matches in seven days to start the season.
