Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s soccer team reported to campus today with 27 student-athletes checking in. It is the largest group to report for a UMHB women’s soccer team and the group features 14 returners from a team that posted the best season in the history of the program last year.
Players will spend the rest of the day going through physicals, parents meetings and compliance meetings. The first practice of the fall camp will be tomorrow morning at the Cru Soccer Complex. And that practice can’t come soon enough for Cru head coach Meg Brown.

“We really wish we could get out on the field today,” Brown said. “The players are really anxious and really excited and we just can’t wait to get started.”

The Cru also returns seven starters and two of the top three goalkeepers from a team that went 12-6 overall last season and posted a 10-3 mark in American Southwest Conference play. UMHB set a new school record for single-season victories last season and advanced to the semifinals of the ASC Championship Tournament before falling to eventual league champion Hardin-Simmons 5-0. The Cru also won an ASC Tournament match for the first time in the program’s history last season.

The UMHB women will open the 2010 season with a home match against Southwestern University on September 1st. The Cru women will open ASC play with a road trip to LeTourneau University and East Texas Baptist University on September 17th and 18th.
