UMHB golfers named All-American Scholars

Williams and Nordt both honored by national coaching groups
Belton, TX – Two University of Mary Hardin-Baylor golfers have been named All-American Scholar-Athletes by their respective coaches associations. The UMHB men and women’s golf teams each had one honoree.
            UMHB women’s golfer Christi Williams was named to the National Golf Coaches Association’s All-American Scholar-Athlete Team. Williams was a senior sport management major for the Cru women and is a graduate of Snyder High School. Williams posted an 84.8 stroke average for the UMHB women this season and she earned First Team American Southwest Conference All-Conference honors after tying for third place individually at the ASC Championship Tournament. She posted three top ten finishes this year and earned ASC Academic All-Conference honors for the third straight year. Williams is now a two-time NGCA All-American Scholar-Athlete.

            To be eligible for the NGCA All-American Scholar-Athlete Team, a player must maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA and play in at least 66 percent of the team’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year. The player must also be of good moral character and be in good standing at the university making the nomination.

            Cru men’s golfer Garrison Nordt was named to the Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-American Scholar Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Nordt was a senior business administration major from Midway High School. He finished his senior year with a 78.5 stroke average and helped lead the UMHB men to a second place finish at the ASC Championship Tournament. Nordt is now a two-time GCAA All-American Scholar and he also earned ASC All-Conference honors three times during his career.

            To be eligible for the GCAA All-American Scholar-Athlete Team, a player must be a junior or senior, participate in 70 percent of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average of 79.0 or better and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or better. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Athletes of the Week
Miranda Shorter
Women's Basketball
Miranda averaged 9.5 points per game over two contests last weekend. She is one of just three seniors on this year's team. Miranda has started 16 of the Cru's 17 games and she currently ranks third on the team in scoring.
Thomas Orr
Men's Basketball
Thomas hit a pair of clutch free throws with 2.1 seconds left in overtime to give the Cru a 75-73 victory over Hardin-Simmons last week. He averaged 13.0 points per game and added a season-high 15 points to keep UMHB in the game in a narrow 75-71 loss to McMurry University.
