Men's Tennis falls in ASC Tournament Quarterfinals

Cru eliminated by LeTourneau 5-2
Ennis, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s tennis team took the lead after doubles, but the Cru could not hold on through singles in a 5-2 loss to LeTourneau University Friday afternoon in Ennis. The loss came in the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Quarterfinals. The UMHB men end the spring with a 9-6 overall record. LeTourneau improves to 20-2 on the season and advances to tomorrow’s semifinals to face tournament host U.T.-Tyler.
            The Cru posted wins at #1 and #3 doubles to take a 2-1 lead going into singles. Josh Pownall and Daniel White won 9-8 (10-8 in the tiebreaker) at #1 doubles and Mitch Hallum and Will Summers teamed for an 8-6 victory at #3 doubles. Ramon Aguirre and Alex Graham fell 8-6 at #2 doubles. The Yellow Jackets then swept 1-4 singles to take the 5-2 victory and eliminate the Cru men.
            The UMHB men were making their first ASC Tournament appearance since 2007. The match also closed out the career of Ramon Aguirre, the only senior on the Cru roster.

Thomas Orr
Men's Basketball
Thomas hit a pair of clutch free throws with 2.1 seconds left in overtime to give the Cru a 75-73 victory over Hardin-Simmons last week. He averaged 13.0 points per game and added a season-high 15 points to keep UMHB in the game in a narrow 75-71 loss to McMurry University.
Miranda Shorter
Women's Basketball
Miranda averaged 9.5 points per game over two contests last weekend. She is one of just three seniors on this year's team. Miranda has started 16 of the Cru's 17 games and she currently ranks third on the team in scoring.
