Marble Falls, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s golf team could hold its lead on the final day and the Cru women finished in third place at the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Tuesday afternoon in Marble Falls. The Cru women finished with a 335-355=690, 14 strokes behind team champion Schreiner University’s 342-334=676. U.T.-Tyler took second place with a 345-335=680, 10 shots ahead of UMHB. McMurry University finished in fourth place after shooting 344-348=692, LeTourneau University claimed fifth place with a 352-346=698, Texas Lutheran University fired a 368-370=738 for sixth place and U.T.-Dallas posted a 426-460=886 and finished in seventh place. The two-day, 36-hole event was played on a par-72, 5,912-yard layout at Horseshoe Bay Resort.
Christi Williams was the top individual finisher for the Cru women. Williams fired an 80-86=166 and tied for third place. She earned ASC All-Conference First Team honors for the second time in her career. Mallory McAdams shot 79-94=173 for the Cru and tied for 12th place, Courtney Nelson posted an 89-86=175 and tied for 16th place, Allison Williams finished 21st after shooting 87-92=179 and Catherine Andrews carded a 91-91=182 and tied for 23rd place. LeTourneau University’s Leslie Lee won the individual championship after firing an 80-77=157 to finish five strokes ahead of Schreiner’s Sarah Stillwell (85-77=162).
Schreiner claims its first conference championship and the Mountaineers will claim the ASC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships. The Cru women have finished in the top three in every ASC Championship Tournament. The ASC Tournament was the final tournament for three UMHB seniors. Christi Williams, Mallory McAdams and Courtney Nelson all played their final events for the Cru this week.
