Marble Falls, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s golf team held its ground but could not move up on the final day as the Cru finished in second place at the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Tuesday afternoon in Marble Falls. The UMHB men posted a 299-302-309=910 team total and finished 34 strokes behind team champion U.T.-Tyler’s 289-293-294=876 score. Schreiner University finished in third place with a 316-300-298=914, Concordia Texas took fourth place at 311-307-305=923 and Mississippi College rounded out the top five with a 304-313-307=924. U.T.-Dallas claimed sixth place after posting a 312-312-311=935, Texas Lutheran University was seventh at 309-310-318=937, McMurry University took eighth place with a 321-304-324=949 and Hardin-Simmons University finished in ninth place after carding a 319-329-318=966. The two-day, 54-hole event was played on a par-71, 6,405-yard layout at Horseshoe Bay Resort.

            Ryan Berry fired the low individual score for the UMHB men. Berry posted a 77-73-75=225 and tied for seventh place individually. Berry earned ASC All-Conference Second Team honors. Johnathan Sustaita carded a 71-75-81=227 for the Cru and tied for 11th place and joined Berry on the ASC All-Conference Second Team. Mike McQuaid finished in 15th place after shooting 72-79-78=229, Spencer Turner tied for 18th place with a 79-75-77=231 and Garrison Nordt shot 85-79-79=243 and tied for 33rd place. Brandon Ellis of U.T.-Tyler won individual medalist honors after shooting 68-68-73=209. He finished eight strokes ahead of Concordia’s Michael Goldwater (76-73-68=217).
            U.T.-Tyler claims its first ASC title and earns the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships. The UMHB men had won back-to-back ASC titles entering this year’s event. The tournament closes out the career of UMHB senior Garrison Nordt, who played his final event as a member of the Cru this week.

Men's Basketball
Thomas hit a pair of clutch free throws with 2.1 seconds left in overtime to give the Cru a 75-73 victory over Hardin-Simmons last week. He averaged 13.0 points per game and added a season-high 15 points to keep UMHB in the game in a narrow 75-71 loss to McMurry University.
Miranda Shorter
Women's Basketball
Miranda averaged 9.5 points per game over two contests last weekend. She is one of just three seniors on this year's team. Miranda has started 16 of the Cru's 17 games and she currently ranks third on the team in scoring.
