Women's golf ties for 11th place at Jekyll Island Invitational

Jekyll Island, GA – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s golf team could not move up on the final day and the Cru women finished in a tie for 11th place at the Jekyll Island Invitational. UMHB fired a 341-352-360=1053 and tied for 11th with St. Benedict (356-354-343=1053). Methodist University ran away with the team championship after shooting 315-319-317=951 to finish 32 strokes ahead of second-place Illinois Wesleyan’s 324-329-330=983. Seminole State took third place after posting a 335-331-326=992, Birmingham Southern claimed fourth place with a 328-336-330=994 and Berry College rounded out the top five after carding a 333-337-335=1005. Southwestern University finished sixth with a 341-334-332=1007, Centre College (338-346-329) and Otterbein College (340-334-339) tied for seventh place with 1013’s, Allegheny College was ninth with a 350-341-340=1031 and Carleton College finished tenth, five shots ahead of UMHB with a 349-342-357=1048. Rhodes College was 13th with a 360-336-361=1057, Mount Holyoke finished 14th at 355-354-357=1066 and Piedmont College took 15th after firing a 356-359-365=1080. Wisconsin-Whitewater finished 16th with a 371-363-357=1091, Trinity University was 17th with a 372-382-364=1118, Huntingdon College shot 377-377-392=1146 for 18th place, Franklin and Marshall was 19th after posting a 398-382-385=1165, Maryville took 20th place with a 402-396-408=1206, Transylvania was 21st with a 417-388-402=1207, St. John Fisher took 22nd place at 427-394-389=1210 and Nebraska Wesleyan finished 23rd with a 417-410-390=1217. The tournament was played on a pair-72, 5,819-yard layout at Indian Mound Golf Course in Jekyll Island, Georgia.
            UMHB was led by Christi Williams. Williams finished in a tie for 31st place after shooting 81-81-94=256. Courtney Nelson shot 85-94-84=263 and tied for 49th place for the Cru, Catherine Andrews posted an 88-89-93=270 to tie for 66th place, Allison Williams tied for 70th with an 87-88-96=271, Alexandra Taylor tied for 77th place after firing a 90-86-99=275 and Mallory McAdams finished 95th with a 105-95-89=289. Emily Bachert of Centre College won the individual title after shooting 77-80-73=230.

            The Cru women will return to action with the Southwestern Invitational. That tournament will be played at Berry Creek Golf Course in Georgetown on March 29th and 30th.

Athletes of the Week
Sara Hayward
Women's Volleyball
Sara has been elected to serve as President of the UMHB Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The junior is also a standout on the court for the Cru volleyball team and she will be counted on to serve as a team leader in addition to her duties as SAAC President.
Max Taylor
Football
Max has been named of 112 finalists for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. He has helped organize the UMHB Sole 2 Soul campaign each of the past two years. That campaign has helped raise nearly $3,300 and four boxes of shoes for donation to orphans in Haiti. Max is also a Preseason All-American and one of the team leaders for the Cru football program on and off the field.
