Mary Haridin-Baylor Athletics

Jekyll Island, GA – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's golf team put together five solid rounds and the Cru women are tied for eighth place after the first round of the Jekyll Island Invitational Friday afternoon in Georgia. The UMHB women fired a 341 team total and are tied with Southwestern University for eighth place, 26 strokes behind tournament leader Methodist University's 315 team total. Illinois Wesleyan is in second place with a 324, Birmingham Southern posted a 328 for third place, Berry College is in fourth place with a 333 and Seminole State is fifth after carding a 335. Centre College shot 338 for sixth place and Otterbein College is seventh, one stroke ahead of UMHB with a 340 team total. Carelton College is tenth with a 349, Allegheny College shot 350 for 11^th place, mount Holyoke is 12^th with a 355, St. Benedict and Piedmont College are tied for 14^th place with 356's, Rhodes College fired a 360 for 15^th place, Wisconsin-Whitewater is 16^th with a 371, Trinity University shot 372 for 17^th place, Huntingdon College is 18^th at 377, Franklin and Marshall shot 398 for 19^th place, Maryville is 20^th with a 402, Transylvania and Nebraska Wesleyan are tied for 21^st with 417's and St. John Fisher rounds out the field with a 427 team total. The tournament is being played on a par-72, 5,819-yard layout at Indian Mound Golf Course in Jekyll Island.

            UMHB was led individually by Christi Williams. Williams fired an opening round 81 and is tied for 13^th place. Courtney Nelson shot 85 for the Cru and is tied for 32^nd place, Allison Williams carded an 87 and is tied for 41^st place, Catherine Andrews shot 88 to tie for 47^th place, Alexandra Taylor recorded a 90 to tie for 60^th place and Mallory McAdams is in 107^th place after shooting 105 on Friday. Victoria Seenath of Seminole State has the individual lead after posting an opening-day 75.

            The three-day, 54-hole tournament will continue with single rounds on Saturday and Sunday. The Cru women will begin teeing off at 8:45 AM Eastern Time in tomorrow's second round.
