RICHARDSON, Texas –– Concordia University Texas, East Texas Baptist University, Hardin-Simmons University, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Mississippi College and the University of Texas at Dallas are all winners of American Southwest Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Team Sportsmanship Awards for 2009 fall sports, the conference office announced on Tuesday (Dec. 8).
The award, in its third academic year, honors the member institution in each ASC championship sport that best displays positive qualities of sportsmanship and fair play from its student-athletes, coaches and fans throughout the season. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committees (SAACs) from the conference’s 15 member institutions vote on the recipients.

Concordia Texas was honored for team sportsmanship in West Division volleyball for the first time, while East Texas Baptist claimed the award for the first time in football and women’s soccer. Hardin-Simmons was also a first-time winner, sharing the women’s cross country crown with Mississippi College, which won in that category for the third straight year. Mary Hardin-Baylor took the men’s soccer award for the first time and shared the East Division volleyball honor with Texas-Dallas. It was the second consecutive honor in East Division volleyball for UTD.
