RICHARDSON, Texas ––Hardin-Simmons University posted a perfect 12-0 record against league competition to win the regular season title and seal the right host its seventh straight American Southwest Conference Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament, to be held Nov. 6-8 at HSU Soccer Complex in Abilene, Texas.
 
The entire six-team, single elimination event will be available for fans through live statistics, while Sunday’s championship game will also have live audio. All links can be found on the “Tournament Central” page on the conference’s website, www.ASCsports.org.
 
Head coach Marcus Wood’s Cowgirls (16-1), winners of the last six ASC titles and 11 overall, will receive a first-round bye. HSU enters with a 16-game winning streak and has not lost to a conference opponent in 129 straight games.
The University of Texas at Tyler (12-4), which reached the ASC title game in 2007, locked up the No. 2 seed and will receive the other first-round bye.
 
Mississippi College (11-5-2) will be the No. 3 seed because of a head-to-head tie-breaker advantage over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (11-5), which will be the No. 4 seed. East Texas Baptist University (10-6) is the No. 5 seed, while 2002 ASC champion University of Texas at Dallas (7-7-4) secured the sixth seed. UTD reached the ASC championship game last year.
 
Friday’s first-round matchups will be UMHB against ETBU at 11 a.m., with the winner getting HSU in Saturday’s 11 a.m. semifinal. MC and UTD will duel on Friday at 2 p.m., with the victor going against UT Tyler at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the semifinals. The championship game is slated for 1 p.m. Sunday.
 
Returning All-Tournament selections are senior goalkeeper Christi Carr, junior forward Amy Kuykendall and junior defender Sarah Stansell of Hardin-Simmons, senior goalkeeper Sam Fraser of Texas-Tyler, senior defender Carrie Kirk of Mississippi College, and sophomore forward Leah Bowyer, sophomore defender/midfielder Katie Geiger and senior midfielder Emily George of Texas-Dallas.
 
The ASC tournament winner earns an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship.

·          Admission: $5 for adults, $3 for students/children.
·          No complimentary admission passes will be accepted.
·          This is the 12th year of the ASC women’s soccer tournament
·          Hardin-Simmons has served as host for the ASC women’s soccer tournament nine different times (1999, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009).

Athletes of the Week
Brittany Moreno
Softball
Brittany batted .363 and hit a home run for the Cru in the ASC First Pitch Tournament last weekend in Farmer's Branch. She drove in three runs and scored two more during the week. Her slugging percentage was .727 over the weekend.
Sterling Phillips
Men's Basketball
Sterling was named MVP of the ASC Men's Basketball Championship Tournament after leading the Cru in scoring in all three games. He helped lead the UMHB men to their second ASC Championship in the last three seasons and the Cru also earned its third trip to the NCAA Division III National Championships. Sterling also earned Honorable Mention ASC All-West Division honors this season.
