Softball places nine on All-West Division Team and takes three individual honors

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team placed nine players on the American Southwest Conference All-West Division teams released today. The Cru had six First Team selections, placed two players on the All-West Second Team and added one Honorable Mention All-West pick. Pitcher Erica White was named West Division Newcomer of the Year and third baseman Caitlin Bollier was voted West Division Freshman of the Year. The Cru coaching staff of head coach Kasey Blomquist, assistant coach Denise Lira and student assistant Jessica Batey also claimed West Division Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
            Second baseman Erica Salazar, third baseman Caitlin Bollier, catcher Jordan Schrutka, outfielder Jessica Oliver, designated player Megan Bohne and pitcher/outfielder Kelsey Greeson all earned First Team All-West Division honors. Salazar, a senior from San Antonio Churchill High School, batted .340 with one home run and 22 RBI. She led the team with 10 doubles and was third on the team with 12 extra base hits. Bollier, a freshman from Kerrville Tivy High School, batted .307 with 20 RBI and also started the triple play that preserved the Cru’s 2-1 victory over Louisiana College in the ASC Tournament. Bollier also took ASC West Division Freshman of the Year honors while fielding .985 at third base. Schrutka, a sophomore from Oak Ridge High School, batted .357 with two homers and 18 RBI. Oliver, a senior from Belton High School, batted .331 with a home run and 20 RBI and she posted a .424 on-base percentage after being hit by a team-high 10 pitches and walking 10 times. Bohne, a junior from A&M Consolidated High School, led the Cru with a .372 batting average, 10 home runs and 24 RBI. She also walked a team-high 32 times and posted an on-base percentage of .500. Greeson, a senior from Belton High School, earned First Team Honors as both a utility player and a pitcher. Greeson batted .291 with one home run and 19 RBI as a centerfielder and went 8-8 with 67 strikeouts in 89 innings as a pitcher. Greeson posted a 3.38 ERA, 11 complete games and three shutouts in the circle.

            First baseman Courtney Johnston and pitcher Erica White were both named to the All-West Division Second Team. Johnston, a senior from Fort Worth Brewer High School, batted .222 with one home run and 13 RBI. White, a junior from Lewisville High School, led the Cru with an 11-5 record and a 2.37 ERA. She struck out a team-best 81 batters in 106.1 innings pitcher. White also was voted ASC West Division Newcomer of the Year after transferring in from Galveston College

            Shortstop Brittany Moreno was named Honorable Mention All-West Division. Moreno, a freshman from Austin Bowie High School, batted .296 and was second on the team with six home runs and 23 RBI. Moreno also led the Cru with 16 extra base hits.

            The coaching staff of Blomquist, Lira and Batey led the Cru to a 26-17 overall record and UMHB went 21-3 in ASC West Division play. The Cru won the ASC West Division for the third time in the last four years and finished third in the ASC Championships Tournament, falling to eventual champion Louisiana College in an elimination game last Saturday.

            This is the fourth All-West Division selection for Salazar. Bohne, Oliver and Greeson are three-time All-West Division picks and Johnston takes All-West Division honors for the second time. This is the first All-West Division selection for Schrutka, Bollier, White and Moreno. The honors stop at the divisional level softball, the ASC does not select an All-Conference Team.

Athletes of the Week
Miranda Shorter
Women's Basketball
Miranda averaged 9.5 points per game over two contests last weekend. She is one of just three seniors on this year's team. Miranda has started 16 of the Cru's 17 games and she currently ranks third on the team in scoring.

Men's Basketball
Thomas hit a pair of clutch free throws with 2.1 seconds left in overtime to give the Cru a 75-73 victory over Hardin-Simmons last week. He averaged 13.0 points per game and added a season-high 15 points to keep UMHB in the game in a narrow 75-71 loss to McMurry University.
