Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team never recovered from Robert Morris’ five-run fifth inning as the Cru dropped a 16-8 decision to the Eagles Tuesday afternoon in Belton. The loss drops UMHB to 8-7 on the season. Robert Morris improves to 6-1 on the year with the victory.
            The Eagles scored a run in the first and two more in the second to take a 3-0 lead. UMHB cut it to 3-2 on Andrew White’s bases-loaded walk and an RBI single from Joseph Villegas in the bottom of the second. Brandon Howard’s grand slam in the top of the third gave the Eagles a 7-2 lead. UMHB closed to 7-4 on Derek Draeger’s RBI groundout and Seth Lynn’s RBI single in the bottom of the fourth, but the Eagles put the game out of reach with five runs in the top of the fifth. Howard singled home two of the runs and Jawanza Young doubled home two more. Robert Morris added three more in the seventh and a run in the eighth before the Cru closed out the scoring with a four-run bottom of the eighth. The first run scored on an error and Jeremy Sapp blasted a three-run home run for his first collegiate homer to close out the scoring.

            The two teams combined for 31 hits, seven errors and 18 walks. Robert Morris left 16 runners on base and the Cru stranded 12 in the game. Adrian Montoya took the loss for UMHB to drop to 0-2 on the season.

            Villegas, Lynn and Doak Fleming had two hits apiece for the Cru in the game. Howard went 4-6 with eight RBI for the Eagles and Sean Boyle added three hits. Joe DeCeault and Sal Bolanos added two hits apiece for Robert Morris.

            The Cru will now travel to Abilene tomorrow to face Marietta College in a 1:00 PM start. UMHB will then open American Southwest Conference West Division play with a three-game series at Hardin-Simmons this weekend.

Sara Hayward
Women's Volleyball
Sara has been elected to serve as President of the UMHB Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The junior is also a standout on the court for the Cru volleyball team and she will be counted on to serve as a team leader in addition to her duties as SAAC President.
Max Taylor
Football
Max has been named of 112 finalists for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. He has helped organize the UMHB Sole 2 Soul campaign each of the past two years. That campaign has helped raise nearly $3,300 and four boxes of shoes for donation to orphans in Haiti. Max is also a Preseason All-American and one of the team leaders for the Cru football program on and off the field.
