Farmer’s Branch, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team battled back for a 6-2 victory over U.T.-Dallas to salvage a split on the final day of the American Southwest Conference First Pitch Tournament Saturday in Farmer’s Branch. The Cru had opened the day with a 3-1 loss to U.T.-Tyler. The Cru is now 3-5 on the season following Saturday’s split.
UMHB took a first-inning lead and then never looked back in route to a 6-2 victory over U.T.-Dallas. Brittany Moreno and Megan Bohne drove in first-inning runs to give the Cru a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. The Cru added a run in the fourth when Austin McCormick scored from second base on Kelsey Greeson’s infield single. UMHB gained some breathing room with three more runs in the fifth. Moreno hit a two-run homer and McCormick singled home Erica Salazar to make it 6-0. UTD would put two runs on the board in the bottom of the seventh, but that would be as close as the Comets could get. Erica White earned the win for the Cru to raise her record to 2-1. Greeson, Moreno and McCormick all had two hits to lead the UMHB offensive attack.

The Cru fell behind early and could not come back in the 3-1 loss to U.T.-Tyler to open the day. The Patriots scored single runs in the second, third and fifth innings. UMHB posted its only run in the top of the sixth inning when Jordan Schrutka singled home Jessica Oliver, but that’s as close as the Cru could get. Greeson was 3-4 to lead the UMHB offense. She also took the loss to drop to 1-2 on the season after scattering five hits, striking out two and walking one in five and a third innings of work.

The UMHB softball team will return to action with the opening of ASC West Division play. The Cru will travel to Brownwood to take on Howard Payne University in a four-game series. The two teams will open the weekend with a 1:00 PM doubleheader on Friday before closing out the series with a 12:00 PM doubleheader on Saturday.
