Redlands, CA – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team could not overcome early deficits in either game and the Cru dropped both ends of a doubleheader to University of Redlands Tuesday afternoon in Redlands, California. UMHB fell 5-1 in game and 6-1 in game two to drop to 8-8 on the season. Redlands improves to 12-4 on the year with the two victories.
The Cru fell behind in the second inning and could not battle back in the 5-1 loss in game one. Nicky Neumann singled home a first-inning run to give the Redlands a 1-0 lead. Lizett Casillas added an RBI single in the bottom of the third to make it 2-0. Kirstie Curry walked with the bases loaded in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 2-1, but UMHB would leave the bases loaded in the frame. Redlands responded with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth on Kayla Peterson’s two-run triple and added one more insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Erica White took the loss for the Cru to drop to 5-2 on the season. White struck out four and scattered nine hits. She did not walk a batter and allowed just four earned runs. Five different players had hits for the Cru in the loss.

UMHB gave up two runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth in a 6-1 game two loss. Redlands would break open a scoreless game with RBI hits from Neumann and Casillas in the fifth inning. UMHB answered with a run in the top of the sixth to close to within 2-1 when Megan Bohne singled home a run. But Redlands would put four more on the board in the bottom of the inning to put the game out of reach. Kelsey Greeson took the loss for the Cru to drop to 3-3 on the season. Once again, five different players had hits for UMHB, but no player had more than one.

The Cru will continue its California trip with another doubleheader tomorrow. UMHB will face Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in a doubleheader starting at 12:00 PM Pacific Time before closing out the trip with a doubleheader at the University of La Verne on Thursday.
