Men's basketball's Dean Pele named ASC West Division Player of the Week

Belton, TX – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball player Dean Pele has been named American Southwest Conference West Division Player of the Week for the week ending January 24th. Pele, a junior guard from Lake Travis High School, claims ASC West Division Player of the Week honors for the second time this season. Pele averaged 22.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game to help lead the Cru to a 2-0 record last week. He opened the week with a 27-point performance in a win at Texas Lutheran University and then closed out the week by scoring a team-high 18 points in UMHB's victory over Schreiner University. Pele hit 57 per cent of his shots from three-point range, going 8-14 from beyond the arc in the two wins. He also added a steal.
            The Cru is currently 12-5 overall and 10-3 in American Southwest Conference play. UMHB has won six straight games and is in sole possession of first place in the ASC West Division, one-half game ahead of McMurry University. The UMHB men will travel to Abilene for a pair of key ASC West Division games this week. The Cru will open against McMurry in a 7:30 PM tip-off on Thursday night before closing out the week with a 3:00 PM start at Hardin-Simmons University on Saturday.
