Takes conference honors for second time this season
Belton, TX – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s basketball player Dean Pele has been named American Southwest Conference West Division Player of the Week for the week ending January 24th. Pele, a junior guard from Lake Travis High School, claims ASC West Division Player of the Week honors for the second time this season. Pele averaged 22.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game to help lead the Cru to a 2-0 record last week. He opened the week with a 27-point performance in a win at Texas Lutheran University and then closed out the week by scoring a team-high 18 points in UMHB’s victory over Schreiner University. Pele hit 57 per cent of his shots from three-point range, going 8-14 from beyond the arc in the two wins. He also added a steal.
            The Cru is currently 12-5 overall and 10-3 in American Southwest Conference play. UMHB has won six straight games and is in sole possession of first place in the ASC West Division, one-half game ahead of McMurry University. The UMHB men will travel to Abilene for a pair of key ASC West Division games this week. The Cru will open against McMurry in a 7:30 PM tip-off on Thursday night before closing out the week with a 3:00 PM start at Hardin-Simmons University on Saturday.

Athletes of the Week
Sara Hayward
Women's Volleyball
Sara has been elected to serve as President of the UMHB Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The junior is also a standout on the court for the Cru volleyball team and she will be counted on to serve as a team leader in addition to her duties as SAAC President.
Max Taylor
Football
Max has been named of 112 finalists for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. He has helped organize the UMHB Sole 2 Soul campaign each of the past two years. That campaign has helped raise nearly $3,300 and four boxes of shoes for donation to orphans in Haiti. Max is also a Preseason All-American and one of the team leaders for the Cru football program on and off the field.
