Softball places three on Academic All-Conference Team

Softball successful in the classroom
Belton, TX- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team placed three players on the American Southwest Conference Spring All-Conference Team, released today. To be eligible for the ASC Academic All-Conference Team, a player must be a sophomore, junior or senior and have attended the school for a full year. The student-athlete must also earn a letter and maintain at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA.

Kelsey Greeson is a junior pitcher/designated player and management major from Belton High School. Joanna Johnson is a senior outfielder and exercise and sport science major from Athens High School. Sara Roman is a sophomore outfielder and exercise and sport science major from St. Joseph's High School in Bryan. Johnson is a two-time ASC Academic All-Conference pick and this is the first ASC Academic All-Conference selection for Greeson and Roman.

The Cru finished the 2009 season with a 20-20 overall record and went 13-11 in ASC West Division play. UMHB finished fourth in the ASC West Division and narrowly missed out on a berth in the ASC Championship Tournament.

Athletes of the Week
Miranda Shorter
Women's Basketball
Miranda averaged 9.5 points per game over two contests last weekend. She is one of just three seniors on this year's team. Miranda has started 16 of the Cru's 17 games and she currently ranks third on the team in scoring.
Thomas Orr
Men's Basketball
Thomas hit a pair of clutch free throws with 2.1 seconds left in overtime to give the Cru a 75-73 victory over Hardin-Simmons last week. He averaged 13.0 points per game and added a season-high 15 points to keep UMHB in the game in a narrow 75-71 loss to McMurry University.
