Softball swept by Texas Lutheran
Karen Fertitta - Drives in key run
UMHB loses to TLU
Seguin, TX - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team could not overcome Texas Lutheran's big sixth innings in either game as the Cru dropped both ends of a doubleheader to the Bulldogs Monday afternoon in Seguin. UMHB lost game one 3-0 and fell 9-3 in game two. The Cru is now 19-17 overall and 12-8 in American Southwest Conference play on the season. TLU improves to 11-23 overall and 6-14 in the ASC with the two victories.

The Bulldogs scored three runs in the sixth inning of game one and UMHB could not come back in a 3-0 loss. The two teams were locked up in a pitcher's duel entering the bottom of the sixth. Amanda Edwards doubled home the first two runs of the inning and the third run scored on a wild pitch. UMHB would put a runner on base in the top of the seventh, but could not push across a run. The Cru would leave five runners on base during the game, including leaving the bases loaded in the top of the fourth inning. Kelsey Greeson took the loss for UMHB to fall to 10-9 on the year. Greeson scattered four hits and struck out one. Erin Jackson had two of the Cru's six hits in the game.

TLU broke open a close game with a five-run sixth inning on the way to a 9-3 game two victory. Karen Fertitta's sacrifice fly in the top of the second gave UMHB a 1-0 lead and the Cru stretched it to 2-0 on a run-scoring throwing error in the top of the third. TLU tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the third on an error and a wild pitch. The Bulldogs would open up a 4-2 lead on a bases-loaded walk and an Edwards RBI single in the bottom of the fifth before breaking it open with five runs in the sixth. Edwards' three-run double was the biggest hit in that inning for TLU. Caitlin Wells tripled and scored on a wild pitch to cut it to 9-3 in the top of the seventh, but that's as close as the Cru would get. Mandy Staton took the loss for UMHB to fall to 8-7 on the year. Kelsi Loewe threw a three-hitter for the Bulldogs to improve to 4-8.

UMHB will now return home to close out the regular season this weekend. The Cru will play host to Hardin-Simmons University for a four-game series at Dee Dillon Field. The two teams will play a 2:00 PM doubleheader on Friday before closing out the series with a 12:00 PM doubleheader on Saturday.
