Earns All-America honors for the second straight season
Belton, TX - University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball player Joseph Villegas has been named All-American by D3baseball.com. Villegas, a junior outfielder from Hays High School, was voted Honorable Mention All-American by the Internet site.
Villegas led the Cru with a .465 batting average this season and was second on the team with six home runs and 39 RBI. Villegas added team highs with 72 hits and 47 runs and he also had six doubles, five triples and a team-best 19 stolen bases. Villegas also became just the second player in UMHB history to go over 200 career hits when he pushed his total to 204 this season. Villegas was also voted ASC First Team All-West Division this season and earned All-American honors as a sophomore last season, as well.
The Cru baseball team finished the 2009 season with a 22-17 overall record. UMHB finished 12-9 in ASC play and advanced to the ASC Championship Tournament for the third straight season before falling to Mississippi College in a first-round series.

Miranda Shorter
Women's Basketball
Miranda averaged 9.5 points per game over two contests last weekend. She is one of just three seniors on this year's team. Miranda has started 16 of the Cru's 17 games and she currently ranks third on the team in scoring.
Thomas Orr
Men's Basketball
Thomas hit a pair of clutch free throws with 2.1 seconds left in overtime to give the Cru a 75-73 victory over Hardin-Simmons last week. He averaged 13.0 points per game and added a season-high 15 points to keep UMHB in the game in a narrow 75-71 loss to McMurry University.
