Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team has placed seven players on the D3football.com All-South Region Team. The Cru had five First Team selections, one Second Team pick and one Third Team honoree.
The Cru placed three offensive linemen on the First Team offense. Center Dustin Davis, a junior from Harker Heights High School, tackle Max Taylor, a junior from Lufkin High School and guard Myke Gobert, a senior from Cy-Ridge High School. Those three players were the highest-grading offensive linemen for the Cru and helped clear the way for a UMHB rushing attack that averaged 320.8 yards per game and 6.1 yards per carry. The Cru also allowed just eight sacks on the season.
Cornerback Brett Parker and defensive back/running back Bryson Tucker earned spots on the First Team defense. Parker, a senior from Richmond Foster High School, tied a UMHB single-season record with six interceptions this season and he broke up 16 more passes. Parker also finished with 46 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and a sack. Tucker, a senior from Caldwell High School, was named All-Purpose for his outstanding all-around season. Tucker finished with 43 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and also returned a fumble for a touchdown as a defensive back. He ran for 558 yards and seven touchdowns in four games at running back and topped 100 yards twice. Tucker also returned a punt for a touchdown and averaged 11.1 yards per punt return and 18.2 yards per kickoff return this season.
Running back Quincy Daniels was voted to the Second Team offense. Daniels, a junior from Belton High School, ran for a team-best 982 yards and 14 touchdowns despite missing two full games with injury. Daniels averaged 6.6 yards per carry and added five receptions for 78 yards.
Linebacker Jeremy Salinas was named to the Third Team defense. Salinas, a senior from Wharton High School, tied for the team lead with 71 total tackles. He added 8.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks and an interception.
The players will now all move on to the ballot for the D3football.com All-America Team. The All-South Region Team was selected in balloting of select South Region Sports Information Directors and D3football.com staff.
The Cru finished the 2009 season with a 10-2 overall record and UMHB won a share of the ASC Championship after finishing with a 7-1 league record. The Cru advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Division III National Championships for the sixth straight year before falling to Linfield College 53-21.
