Women's soccer falls to Hardin-Simmons in ASC Tournament
Allyson Sargeant posted six saves in goal for UMHB
Cru women close out most successful season in program's history

Abilene, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s soccer team fell behind early and could not climb out of that early hole as the Cru women fell to Hardin-Simmons 5-0 in the semifinals of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Saturday in Abilene. The loss ends UMHB’s season with a 12-6 record. Hardin-Simmons improves to 17-1 on the season and the Cowgirls advance to tomorrow’s championship match.
            Hardin-Simmons grabbed a 1-0 lead when Miranda Bersosa scored off an assist from Katie Kuykendall just 54 seconds into the match. Bersosa added another goal off assist from Kuykendall and Carlyn Powers to make it 2-0 at the 20:52 mark. It would stay that way into the second half before the Cowgirls broke it open with three more goals. Amu Kuykendall scored 51:08 into the match, Kelsey Byars added a goal 14 minutes later and Allison Ray closed out the scoring at the 68:10 mark.

            Allyson Sargeant had six saves in goal for the UMHB women. The Cru did not get a shot on goal as the Cowgirls out shot UMHB 30-2 in the match. Christi Carr and Rebecca Roth combined for the shutout in goal for Hardin-Simmons.

            The UMHB women set new school records with 12 overall victories and 10 conference wins. The Cru also posted the first ASC Tournament win in school history with Friday’s 1-0 victory over East Texas Baptist University. Three UMHB seniors closed out their careers with Saturday’s match, Mickie Arredondo, Lindsay Hunt and Allyson Sargeant.

Thomas Orr
Men's Basketball
Thomas hit a pair of clutch free throws with 2.1 seconds left in overtime to give the Cru a 75-73 victory over Hardin-Simmons last week. He averaged 13.0 points per game and added a season-high 15 points to keep UMHB in the game in a narrow 75-71 loss to McMurry University.
Miranda Shorter
Women's Basketball
Miranda averaged 9.5 points per game over two contests last weekend. She is one of just three seniors on this year's team. Miranda has started 16 of the Cru's 17 games and she currently ranks third on the team in scoring.
