Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team will close out the 2009 regular season at home this Saturday with a 1:00 PM kickoff against Sul Ross State University. The Cru will enter the game with an 8-1 overall record and a 6-1 mark in American Southwest Conference play. UMHB can clinch at least a share of the ASC Championship with a victory and the Cru also needs a win to keep its hopes alive for a berth in the NCAA Division III National Championships. Sul Ross State will enter the game with a 2-7 overall record and a 2-5 mark in the ASC. UMHB should have head coach Pete Fredenburg back on the sidelines after he missed last week’s game under doctor ordered rest. The game will also be marked by Military Appreciation festivities at Tiger Field.
“We are thrilled to have a chance to close out the regular season in front of our home fans,” Fredenburg said. “We are also very excited to have a chance to honor our military men and women. The military means so much to our program to this community and we want to pay our respects to them. This is just one more way that we can say thank you to them for their service and all that the military does for our country.”

The 32-team field for the NCAA Division III National Championship will be announced between 2:00 and 2:30 PM Sunday afternoon on ESPNews. UMHB has won or shared four straight ASC titles and six of the last seven. The Cru has also advanced to the NCAA Championship in five straight seasons and seven of the last eight years.
