Softball to host "Striking Out Breast Cancer" events this Saturday

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team will do its part to help “Strike Out Breast Cancer” when the Cru plays host to Our Lady of the Lake for a doubleheader this Saturday at 12:00 PM at Dee Dillon Field. The Cru will host “Striking Out Breast Cancer” events throughout the doubleheader as part of Cancer Awareness Month.
The Cru will wear specially designed pink uniforms for the game and t-shirts will be sold for $10 (S-XL) and $11.50 (XXL) during the game. Ticket prices will be $3 for adults and $2 for children ages five and up. There will also be donations taken from fans for every strike out in an odd-numbered inning (1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th). All of the proceeds from the games will be donated to the Cancer Research Center at Scott and White Hospital in Temple.

“Breast cancer seems to affect so many people and so many families locally,” Cru head softball coach Kasey Blomquist said. “The team thought this might be a good way to bring attention to Cancer Awareness Month. Now we hope the community and our fans will come out and support the cause.”

Breast cancer survivors will be recognized before the game and a pair of breast cancer survivors will also take part in pre-game ceremonies. Donna Shipp, the wife of UMHB Vice-President for Athletics Ben Shipp, and Darla Kirby, the UMHB women's golf coach, will throw out the ceremonial first pitches prior to the first game of the doubleheader.
