La Verne, CA – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team closed out its California trip with a doubleheader sweep at the hands of the University of La Verne Thursday afternoon in La Verne, California. UMHB fell 7-2 in game one before giving up three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning in a 5-4 game two loss. The Cru falls to 8-12 on the season with the two losses. The Leopards improve to 10-10 on the season with the two victories.

Claremont, CA – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team dropped another heartbreaker when the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas walked off with a game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a doubleheader sweep from the Cru Wednesday afternoon in Claremont. UMHB lost game one 5-3 before falling 6-5 in the second game. The Cru is now 8-10 overall this season and UMHB falls to 1-5 on its California trip with the two losses. CMS improves to 11-2 on the season with the two victories.

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s basketball team has been awarded the 2009-2010 American Southwest Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Team Sportsmanship Award. The UMHB women shared the ASC West Division honor with Sul Ross State University while the University of the Ozarks women’s team took ASC East Division honors.

Belton, TX – The game times for the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team’s weekend home series against McMurry University have changed due to the threat of rain this weekend. The two teams will now open the series with a 1:00 PM doubleheader on Friday before closing out the weekend with a 12:00 PM single game on Saturday. UMHB is currently 9-10 overall and 1-2 in American Southwest Conference West Division play.

Belton, TX – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s tennis player Mallory Aarhus has been named American Southwest Conference West Division Player of the Week for the week ending March 14th. Aarhus, a sophomore from Georgetown High School, posted wins at #2 singles and #1 doubles for the Cru in a 5-4 loss to Methodist University last week. Aarhus stormed back from an opening set loss to post a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 win at #2 singles and she teamed with her twin sister, Megan, for an 8-1 victory at #1 doubles for the Cru women.

Brittany Moreno
Softball
Brittany batted .363 and hit a home run for the Cru in the ASC First Pitch Tournament last weekend in Farmer's Branch. She drove in three runs and scored two more during the week. Her slugging percentage was .727 over the weekend.
Sterling Phillips
Men's Basketball
Sterling was named MVP of the ASC Men's Basketball Championship Tournament after leading the Cru in scoring in all three games. He helped lead the UMHB men to their second ASC Championship in the last three seasons and the Cru also earned its third trip to the NCAA Division III National Championships. Sterling also earned Honorable Mention ASC All-West Division honors this season.
